Make the Check-in at the Airport a Fuss Free Experience

A first-time flyer may find the check-in process at the airport to be a hassle. Numerous people, several checks, many signs and various paths – everything seems to be a crazy blur! It seems too difficult a thing to handle.

The trouble seems to increase manifold when you have to check-in with a large group complete with elderly family members and crying infants and toddlers. How do you tackle such a situation? The key to success is to plan ahead.

Let’s try to make things easier for you when you fly from the Southampton Airport.

Carry appropriate identification. You wouldn’t like to be turned from the check-in counter at the airport because you don’t have the right ID. Don’t forget to keep the necessary documents in your carry-on bag in advance.

If you are flying to a destination within Europe, a driver’s licence may be adequate. But you need your passport and visa in place when you fly to some international destination. It is best to find out about the identifications you need to board a flight.

Arrive earlier than the scheduled time. If your ticket doesn’t have the detail about when you need to arrive, it is best to contact the airline you fly with and ask about this. A last minute rush to the airport isn’t a good idea, especially if you are flying with your family.

The rule of thumb is to arrive at least one hour prior to the scheduled departure time if you plan to fly within the UK or Ireland and at least two hours before if you are on an international flight. Also, book a car parking service in advance to avoid any hassle.

Check-in options that may be available. Online check-in facilities are available for passengers flying with airlines including Flybe, Air France, Aurigny and Blue Islands. However, this doesn’t mean that you can arrive at the last moment.

Self-service check-in kiosks at the Southampton Airport may make things easier for passengers. However, keep in mind that these are not available for all passengers. To find this detail, contact the airline or ask the agent you book the ticket with.

Ask about the luggage check-in process. When you arrive at the check-in, your luggage is tagged and sent for security check. It is best not to lock the luggage, as this won’t make the process easier. If you have valuables, take them in your carry-on bag.

If it is an international flight, don’t assume that the personnel would check-in the luggage for the entire trip. Request them to do so. It can be a lot less hassle if you don’t have to pick up your luggage at every stopover and check it in again.

Request a specific seat at check-in. If you would love to have an aisle or window seat, this is the time to ask for it. When you check-in, politely ask the attendant whether it is possible to arrange this. This is often available; but you won’t get it if you don’t ask.

It can be a terrible experience for someone tall if the aircraft doesn’t have enough leg room in front. If you are worried about this, request for a seat in the row near the exit. They often have more space than others. Also, ask whether there are separate charges for it.

You are ready to board. Once you have passed through the check-in, you need to go through a security check. Next, you can pass on to the boarding lounge, where you have to wait until it is time to begin your journey.

At the boarding lounge, you need to relax. The check-in part is over and you don’t need to worry about anything. Keep an eye on the screens that display important information such as the times for boarding flights, departure schedules and boarding gate numbers.

Flying out of Southampton Airport for a trip becomes a breeze if you know how to handle it.

With a little attention to the details, you can make your flight a fuss free experience, whether you go on your own or with your extended family. Find out about the check-in process beforehand to make sure you know what to expect and what to do.

Also, make sure you book a car parking service. Otherwise, you may have to find a parking space after you arrive at the airport. This is possible; however, it would be quite costly. You can save considerable money, and prevent a big hassle, if you do this in advance.

  1. Hi! I understand this is sort of off-topic but I had to ask.
Does operating a well-established blog such as yours require a large amount
of work? I am brand new to writing a blog however I do write in my diary daily.
I’d like to start a blog so I can share
my personal experience and thoughts online. Please let me know if
you have any ideas or tips for brand new aspiring blog owners.
    Appreciate it!

Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using?

I’m planning to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a
difficult time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.

The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m
looking for something unique. P.S Sorry for getting off-topic but I
    had to ask!
